Functions and objectives

The Institute’s Academic Secretary has as main responsibility to support the academic personnel and the Directorate of the Institute. Particularly, it is responsible for maintaining updated information on the status of the academic personnel, as well as supporting them in a wide range of academic paperwork and procedures, as the delivery of the annual report, leave of absence requests, and base salary plus commission. Likewise, it organizes open competitive examinations and closed competitive examinations for promotion and permanency. It also summons the meetings of the review committees and PRIDE, and supports at the making of institutional certificates and letters for non-internal entities at UNAM, such as the National System of Researchers (SNI). In addition, convokes and organizes the various elections for members of collegiate bodies, such as the representatives at the Internal Council, and representatives at the Postgraduates and at the Academic Councils.
The Academic Secretary also convenes the Institute’s Internal Council meetings, where the head of the Academic Secretary acts as the secretary of the meeting. It also coordinates the activities of the various Academic Units: Library and Information Unit, Computing and IT Safety Unit, Teaching and Human Resources Unit, Irradiation and Radiation Safety Unit, and Science Communication Unit. In addition, the Academic Secretary supports the Directorate in the making of the Annual Report as well as the Entity Development Plan. The head of the Academic Secretary represents the Director in their absence at the meetings of the Technical Council of Scientific Research. Finally, the Academic Secretary coordinates, alongside the Administrative Secretary, the tasks of the Technical Secretaries that are related to the maintenance and expansion of the Institute’s facilities.

The office of the Academic Secretary it is located in building A, third floor of the Institute of Nuclear Sciences at UNAM, on the Directorate area.
