The Institute of Nuclear Sciences (ICN) at UNAM, Mexico’s National Autonomous University, is a premier research center. With roots tracing back to the Nuclear Laboratory established in 1967, the ICN was formally founded in 1988 and has since been at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific exploration.
Spanning five departments, the ICN fosters a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment, covering theoretical and experimental physics, astrophysics, astrobiology, chemistry, and complex systems. The ICN maintains a strong international presence through collaborations with leading global projects, including ALICE, HAWC, the Pierre Auger Observatory, JEM-EUSO, IceCube, Fermi-LAT, the STAR Collaboration, NA44, the Telescope Array, the Southern Wide-Field Gamma-Ray Observatory, and the CCM, CONNIE, and Oscura experiments.
As a vital part of UNAM’s academic ecosystem, the ICN plays a key role in graduate programs in physics, chemistry, and astronomy, attracting talented postdoctoral researchers from Mexico and around the world. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, the institute continues to shape the future of scientific discovery.
