Background and objectives
In 2011, the Maintenance Coordination team was created with the objective of having a group of people who could provide immediate solutions to preventive and corrective maintenance problems that arise within the Institute. The team is also responsible for the strategic planning of refurbishment, rehabilitation, and construction of new work spaces that allow to maintain and preserve the optimal functioning of the Institute’s facilities and physical equipment. In 2014, it changes its name to the current Technical Secretary of Civil and Maintenance Infrastructure.
Functions
Maintain in optimal functioning the Institute’s facilities and physical equipment by programming, coordinating, and supervising the different programs of preventive and corrective maintenance of the electric, hydraulic and sanitary services, air conditioning equipment and gas extraction systems, vacuum and compressed air line systems, auditorium, offices, and classrooms. Coordinate the different services provided by the Institute’s workshops. Plan and supervise the maintenance works, renovations, rehabilitation and new construction projects, making sure to always apply the guidelines, policies and institutional regulations and those of the Institute management.
Technical Secretary of Infrastructure and Maintenance is formed by the Maintenance Workshop, Blown Glass Workshop, and Advanced Manufacture Workshop.
Maintenance Workshop
This is the space where the staff performs manual labor to provide preventive, corrective, and emergency services of the physical facilities of the Institute. These are related to electric and hydraulic energy, zero air void lines, gas lines, compressed air, painting, blacksmithing, carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, and furniture repair.
The Maintenance Workshop is conformed by the following collaborators:
Head of the workshop: Mr. Salvador Valle Almazán.

Blown Glass Workshop
This is the space where the glass material and equipment is produced and repaired, which is used in the different laboratories of the Institute in order to make a diverse kind of experiments. As the researches made in the ICN are highly specialized, glass prototypes that are hard to find in the market are needed, thus they are fabricated in the Blown Glass Workshop.
Trough technical and artisanal labor, and based on a sketch, pieces and equipment are created. Most of the objects are molded and detailed with the artistry of manual labor and by blowing the glass, which is continuously softened by a blowtorch.
Periodically, the Blown Glass Workshop offers basic courses of glassblowing. This is one of the Institute’s areas that you can visit during guided tours.
The Blown Glass Workshop is formed by the following collaborators:
Parts fabricator technician (head of the workshop): , Ms. Mayra Esther Ham Reyes.
Advanced Manufacture Workshop
It is where the elaboration and machining of parts in different materials for research projects is carried out. All of them according to the guidelines, specifications, and quality set by the applicant, for the realization of its technical mechanical manufacture.
The process of the machining of parts is performed on machines such as lathe, milling machines, planes, column drills, bending machines and welding.
The Advanced Manufacture Workshop is formed by the following collaborators:
