We work to understand and describe the fundamental structures of matter and their interactions at low energies. This includes hadrons, mesons, atomic nuclei, atoms, and molecules, as well as photon systems, and the interactions between them and with external fields.

The High Energy Physics Department conduct cutting-edge theoretical and experimental research, contributing to the quest to identify and examine the properties of the fundamental constituents of our Universe.

Computational astrophysics: astrophysical flows, interstellar medium, star formation and evolution, and development of fluid dynamics codes; plasmas in controlled nuclear fusion; spectroscopy of cold atoms; astrobiology, planetary atmospheres, and habitability; radiolysis and thermolysis of prebiotic compounds.

Numerical studies in general relativity and quantum chromodynamics; theoretical research on gravity, both classical and quantum, mathematical physics, cosmology, and quantum mechanics; applications in biophysics and complex systems. Computational physics.
