Research: Computer and IT Security Unit

The academic project of the Computer and IT Security Unit addresses the needs regarding the use and application of information and communication technologies for the development and management of safe and trustworthy information systems by offering guidance, technical support, and computer services.
Part of the services of this Unit are supported by high-performance computational technologies that look to promote and contribute to research in the field of science, engineering, and other disciplines, mainly in the field of Computational Science and High-Performance Computing, providing the instruments and developing the tools needed by the fundamental, applied, and strategic research to solve research issues that require mass data management and parallel computing.

Projects

The Computer Unit of the ICN has a fully equipped room that hosts several high-performance equipment and provides support for theoretical and experimental research. Among the projects that we can highlight is the Tochtli cluster: the first computing node of CERN’s ALICE project in Latin America meant for studying particle collision, and the first team where European technology has transferred to Mexico within the framework of the EELA project (E-Infrastructure shared between Europe and Latin America) of the European Community. Another important project is the data analysis team of the HAWC Gamma-Ray Observatory in collaboration with the UNAM’s Astronomy and Physics institutes, and the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics, among others. These collaborations and projects have contributed to positioning the ICN as one of the few UNAM institutes with a room for equipment of this nature.
The ICN’s Computer Unit offers:
  1. Computer services, guidance, and technical support.
  2. High-performance computing.
  3. Monitoring and maintenance of telecommunications and optical fiber equipment and all of the communication systems, including the VolP telephone system.
  4. IT security, attention, and incident response.
  5. Webpage and email services.
  6. Surveillance camera systems.
  7. Administration of videoconference equipment.
