Princeton is a small pleasant town in the state of New Jersey, with a population of 30,000 people. In addition to the University, Princeton is the home of the Institute for Advanced Study (where Albert Einstein spent the last 22 years of his life). Princeton is about one hour away from both New York City and Philadelphia.

Princeton University, chartered in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, was British North America's fourth college. Originally located in Elizabeth and later in Newark, the College moved to the town of Princeton in 1756 to occupy the newly completed Nassau Hall, which housed the entire College for nearly half a century. This was one of the largest buldings in the colonies, surviving bombardment during the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777, and serving as the home of the Continental Congress in 1783. The University campus now covers more than 2,000 acres (600 in the main campus). The student body numbers approximately 4,500 undergraduates and 1,700 graduate students in more than 60 departments and programs.
