A brief overview over the technology to realize Quantum gases in free fall

In 2007 at ZARM, University of Bremen, the first Bose-Einstein Condensate in free fall has been realized on a regular basis. The apparatus is intended as a pathfinder on the way to bringing quantum sensors into space. So far, the feasibility of quantum optical experiments in a microgravity environment was successfully demonstrated. In this talk I would like to give a brief overview over the technologies which are involved in the realization of experiments in free fall. That is, (i) an introduction to the drop tower in Bremen and (ii) focusing on some selected experiments which benefit from being performed under microgravity.
