3+1 numerical relativity in curvilinear coordinates, and applications to scalar-tensor theories of gravity

In this talk I will give an overview of how to modify standard hyperbolic formulations of the 3+1 evolution equations of General Relativity in such a way that all auxiliary quantities are true tensors, thus allowing for these formulations to be used with curvilinear sets of coordinates such as spherical or cylindrical coordinates. I will later specialize to the case of spherical symmetry and discuss a numerical code constructed using this formulation. As a particular example of the application of this code, I will also discuss some recent results in the numerical simulation of scalar-tensor theories of gravity in spherical symmetry.
