On the ontological status of spacetime and its implications for GR and QG

RESUMEN: Basic concepts from ontology and philosophy are reviewed. The conception of spacetime that comes from GR is then analyzed in this light, with the hope of obtaining insight for the development of QG. In particular, the role of the classical manifold and the continuum is discussed.
